Dreamweaver MX: Live Site Tutorial
A live site is also known as a web site. Web sites are a collection of web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are hosted by a remote host or a server. These are usually viewed through a web browser (Internet explorer, Firefox). All Live sites (web sites) are accessible to the public and constitute what we know as the “World Wide Web”.
Every web site has a common root URL termed as Homepage or Index file. From here, the other pages can be accessed, a series of links (hyperlinks) connect these pages and allows you to navigate from one page to another. Today, there are over 11.5 billion web sites and the number is still growing.
Here is how you can upload files to a Live Site.
In order for the world to see and marvel at your web pages you made with Dreamweaver MX, you need to upload them to your website. But before publishing to the web, try to publish it in a local server first. After that, follow these short instructions on how to publish your pages on the web server.
- First, click on Windows from the menu bar. Then choose files and indicate which ones you want to upload. For your convenience, it would be better if you put all the files for the web pages in one folder. If it’s from a local host, then select the local root folder.
- Next, click the blue arrow found in the Files panel. This triggers the upload.
- Dreamweaver would then copy the files to the web server. Uploading the files could take a long time depending on how big they are and the speed of your internet connection.
- Check through your internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) if the files have been uploaded accordingly. If so, then you have successfully published your pages in a Live site.
