The Editor’s Kompozer is a ‘What You See Is What You Get’ (WYSIWYG) web editor. It is primarily based on Nvu (N-view) which functions to manage web files and implements WYSIWYG for easy page editing. The Kompozer is a free editor just like Nvu and can run on operating systems like Macintosh, Windows and Linux. This editor is designed for those starters that want to give a professional finish to a page. Hence, it is very convenient and user-friendly. Editor’s Kompozer is a very effective free application in designing your website. Still, there are other basic things to be considered before deciding on your sites design. First, you should try getting your own domain name (.com, .net, .us, .org). The most costly one would be the .com domain for around $9, the rest you can get for even less than a buck. Other things like being search-engine-friendly and promotion of your site mainly depends on you. After all these considerations are met, you can then start designing your page using Kompozer. If you do not have the Kompozer yet, it can be downloaded from this URL: http://www.kompozer.net/download.php as suggested by Christopher Heng, of thesitewizard.com. Below are some basic instructions of how to use the Editors Kompozer. - Upon starting the Kompozer, a window will appear containing a menu bar and a number of toolbars. But your main focus should be towards the panel at the right-hand side, which is labelled as “untitled”. It is here that you design the page.
- Try typing in anything you want into the panel. Put in the things that interest you, only your imagination would be the limit.
- Notice that a series of tabs are just below the panel. These tabs indicate which mode you are using. As of now, you should be in Normal mode.
- After you are done with everything you want to put into your page, try to see how it looks like when finally in a browser by opting for a preview. From the tabs, click the Preview mode.
- The Kompozer basically translates what you put into the panel to an HTML code which then can be previewed through another tab, the HTML Source.
- After viewing the code, return to the Normal mode then save your work. Do this by clicking File then under it, select Save.
- Save your file using the name index.html. Use the exact words as I indicated; no uppercase or other characters. This file will serve as your main page.
When you are done saving your work, try to make other pages for your website. When you are through, try to upload it to your hosted domain and let others admire your work. Original Authors: Roz Edit Update Authors: M.A.Harris Updated On: 20/05/2009
