Draw a Rainbow

Open a new document in Photoshop of any size that you desire and keep the background as white. From the layers palette, make a new layer and select it.

Select the ellipse tool, from tools palette, which you will use to draw a circle. In the ellipse option, state the dimensions. Choose fixed size from options and type 500px as height and width. Now, if you click on the document, a circle will appear. You can choose any colour. Keep repeating these steps on a new layer every time to form circles in different colours. But you will have to change the fixed dimensions and also the colours, so that you get concentric circles of different colours.

You decide on the width of each layer of colour and then based on that keep changing the fixed dimensions. So if you decided 10 px as the width of each layer then after the first layer, suppose of red colour, your next layer should be 480 px, then 460 px and so on. You can choose the colours as red, orange, yellow, green and blue; from outside to inside. The inside of the circle will have the blue colour, the last chosen colour. First, you will have to remove that colour and then cut the rainbow out from the circle. Hide the background layer by clicking on the eye ball icon of the corresponding layer from layers palette. Now merge the visible layers. Do this by clicking on the visible layer and then pressing Ctrl + shift + e.

Now again select the ellipse tool and use fixed dimensions for X and Y coordinates. Press Ctrl + t and centre it. Then select the rainbow layer and click on the top layer, holding the Ctrl button. A selection will appear around it. Delete the selection from rainbow layer. Select the top layer and right click on layers palette and select delete layer.  On the keyboard Ctrl + d can be used to deselect.

To remove the lower half of the rainbow, select the rectangle tool and using that draw a selection which covers the rainbow. Click Ctrl + t and keep the anchor point to be top centre. Select the rainbow layer and click on the top layer while holding the Control button. When selection will appear, delete it. Select the top layer and go to layers palette; on right clicking you can choose delete layer. You will get the half rainbow which you can use anywhere.
