Retro look
(For new Photoshop versions)
If you want to give your photo a retro look, then here is how to do it. Go to file menu and click on Open. Browse for a picture which you want to work on. Go to layers palette and click on new layers icon at the bottom. This will highlight the layer in blue and that means it is active:
Select the rectangular marquee tool from the tools palette:
Using the mouse and with tool selected, drag a rectangle, starting from the top left corner to the middle of the photo. Now, half of the photo is selected.
From the colour swatch palette, select red colour:
Press Alt + backspace and it will fill the entire selection in red:
Click on Select and open the menu, and select Inverse option from the menu:
Now the other half of the photo is selected:
Go to colour swatch again and select another colour. Press Alt + backspace to fill the other half with the second colour:
Go to layers palette and click on the eye icon next to this layer which you are working on. Clicking on the eye icon will hide the layer. Now, click on background layer to activate it.
Open the Image menu and click on adjustments. From the adjustment menu, select the match colour:
In the match colour tool, select the document name in the Source option. In the layer option, select the layer name which you hid. In the image options menu, there are three settings; fade, luminance, and colour intensity. Increase the fade amount by moving the slider to the right. Adjust the colour intensity by moving the slider to get the desired effect. Luminance will not change at all, as this darkens or lightens the photo.
Invert the layer before using the match colour tool option to give the whole photo a retro look.
