Gold plated text effect

Go to the File menu and choose New. You can name the document and set the width and height of the new document or use the preset sizes. Click Ok and a new Photoshop document is created.

Click on background and select black as your foreground colour. Use Alt + backspace on your keyboard to fill the background layer with black colour. Now again select your foreground colour to white as you have to type a text. Go to Tools Palette and select type tool. From options bar, you can choose a font style and click inside the document and start typing. Since the text will look very small, you can resize it using the free transform command. Press Ctrl + t to bring up the free transform box. Now, holding Shift + Alt resize your text by dragging the corner handles of the box. Press enter after finishing.

Ctrl + j is the keyboard shortcut used to duplicate the text layer. You need to name all the layers separately. With this text copy layer selected, click on the layer styles icon which is situated at the bottom of the Layer’s palette. In the Gradient overlay options, click on the Gradient preview area which is below the opacity.  This will bring the gradient editor where you have to select the left colour marker and then the colour swatch to select the colour. Now, from the colour picker, you can pick the colour which you want for gold. Click Ok to accept the colour you chose. This will bring you back to the Gradient editor where you have to select the right colour marker and then the colour swatch again. Now from the colour picker, you should select a darker gold colour than previously selected. Click Ok and exit out of the colour picker window and then from the gradient editor window.

With the layer styles box still open, in the gradient overlay options, open the drop down menu of Style and select Reflected. This will give a darker colour to top and bottom of text. Now, in the layer style dialog box, click on Bevel and Emboss and change the technique to chisel hard or leave it at smooth, as you need. Below the structure option is the Shading options where you can click on Gloss contour and select ring double. Check the anti-Aliased effect also, here. Go to the structure options again and drag the slider bar of Size and Depth to the right which will close the open spaces in the text and enhance the lightning effect. In the layer style dialog box, check the Contour box, which is below the Bevel and Emboss options. In the same, layer styles, window click on the Inner glow to bring up its options. Here, change the blend mode to multiply, opacity to 50%, and from colour swatch, pick an orange colour.  Click ok and exit out of the colour picker and then the Layer style box.

Now select the original text layer from the layer’s palette and open the layer styles icon again. Here, select Stroke which is at the bottom and when the layer style dialog box opens, change the structure size to 5 pixels, Fill type to Gradient, and gradient style to Reflected. Again, click on the gradient preview area, as before, which will bring up the Gradient editor. Select the same colours here for left side marker and right side marker. Click Ok and exit out of the window. Again, click on the Bevel and Emboss options and change Style to Stroke emboss. You need to change the technique to chisel hard, size to 5 pixels and in the shading option, click on Gloss contour where you have to select the ring-double again. Like before, enable the contour option on the left side of the menu area. Now, exit out of the layer styles dialog box.

Though your gold effect is complete, you can add sparkles to your golden text. To do this, click on text copy layer in layers palette and bring up the new layer dialog box. From the tool palette, choose brush tool and by right clicking anywhere inside the document, will open a brush tool menuClick on the arrow on the top right corner and choose assorted brushes. Now using the eyedropper tool from the tools palette, click on the lightest areas of the text which will be the colour of your sparkles. Go back to the brush tool again and select crosshatch brush from the list of available brushes. Now with the brush and colour, you can click randomly to add sparkles to the text. To add randomness, keep changing the brush sizes. You can lower the opacity of the sparkles layer to 50 % in case they look too deep.

With this, your gold plated effect is complete.
